Weightless

The next subjects to volunteer for my left-handed experiment were hummingbirds. It seemed only fair. After all, if there is any creature on earth that refuses to hold still long enough for accurate drawing, it’s a hummingbird. Their perpetual motion felt perfectly matched to the loose, occasionally optimistic mark-making that accompanied my non-dominant-hand adventures.

I began with a single bird, partly to test whether I could pull it off and partly because one hummingbird seemed less likely to expose my shortcomings than an entire flock. To my surprise, the painting worked. In fact, I loved the sense of motion that emerged in the wings.
